As January begins I am cranking on 3 different commissions (4 individual pieces) and beginning to ideate new work. At the same time I am interested in rethinking the way I engage, share and present my work and practice online. I am often torn by the need to be and present my work/practice in more academic ways and my desire to write and speak directly about the work. There is an odd thing that happens when I write about my art; I try to pack the text with all of the rigor, research and multi-layered ideas that fueled the work. In writing like that I satisfy the geekier, art nerd side of myself but end up ignoring so much of the nuanced realities of the work and how it evolves in the moments of making or in the world after I’m done, when my words aren’t there to provide layers of information. As the year begins I have a hand full of commissions to complete before Mid-February and some new branches/series of work I am eager to get moving on.

My hope is to use this section of my website and regularly-posted, vlog-style video posts to find that goldilocks, just right, conversation I am interested in having around my work.
